BARCELONA!!!
I lived in over 15 cities during my life and with out any doubt I can say, most fun, energetic and alive city I lived in so far is Barcelona.
Reason are simple it has best (hall in the wall) food, best people energy, and people are generally happy. You can live cheap, comparing to most of other western cities, but still have quality living. It has huge sand beach.

Los Angeles
I nominate Los Angeles, the city of Angels. What makes LA great is obviously Hollywood (aka aspiring actresses, singers, models everywhere). Plus the weather is warm most of the year so you can hang out on the beach all day and surf, rollerblade, sunbathe, etc. That means that everyone is fit and tan. The city is huge and spread out, so you never run out of new things to do and places to go. There's tons of well-paying jobs and life is pretty laid back, California style. It's a no-brainer, L.A. is by far the best city!
